Course Description

HLT52015 Diploma in Remedial Massage is the qualification that prepares graduates to work as a remedial massage therapist. Providing remedial massage treatment to clients with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care, aged care, women and children. This qualification covers people who want to be self-employed and work as independent practitioners and those who want to work within a larger health service. It provides the skills to provide remedial massage treatment to clients with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care and aged care. Practitioners at this level may supervise other massage therapists.

  • VET Student Loans
This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan. VET Student Loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements. A VET Student Loan gives rise to a HELP debt that continues to be a debt due to the Commonwealth until it is repaid. We will ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process. Please note: Full fee paying students will incur a 20 per cent loan fee on their VET Student Loan For more information on VET Student Loans, please visit Department of Education and Training Additional Fee:
  • Students are required to hold or study the unit HLTAID003 Provide first aid at their own cost (MIA offers first aid training at an additional cost. MIA charges $80.00 for MIA Diploma of Remedial Massage Students.)
NOTE: this additional fee is not applicable to eligible VET Student Loan Students.

Study Outcome

After achieving HLT52015 Diploma of Remedial Massage, individuals could progress to higher education qualifications. This qualification provides a pathway to work in massage industry with their learned skills and knowledge, possible job roles may include but not limited to:

  • Massage Therapist
  • Remedial Massage Therapist


An application can be made for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) when the student believes that they have already attained the necessary skills and competencies elsewhere (work, other study etc.) or have an equivalent qualification or part of a qualification. MIA recognises the AQF qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTOs and grants credit for these towards an award where applicable. The application for RPL and/or Credit Transfer should be lodged prior to or immediately after the enrolment.

Assessment Methods

A variety of assessment methods will be used to assess students’ knowledge and skills. Trainer will explain these in detail before any assessment takes place. Assessment methods may include and not limited to:

  • Written Assessment (Questions and Answers).
  • Case Study/Role Play
  • Project
  • Practical Demonstrations
  • Observation

Delivery Methods


The delivery is classroom based, face-to-face, so that you can complete in-class activities including: role plays, presentations, practice exercises and discussions. You will be provided with textbooks and workbooks to support the learning. Delivery had been timetabled to ensure you can develop the theoretical skills and knowledge and have the opportunity to develop practical massage skills in a simulated situation before commencing the practical (clinic) component of the course.

Individual learning includes; work/home-study, the Completion of assignments and Individual reading and research.

Student Clinic

On successful completion of the theoretical components, you will complete your training in our student clinics (200 hours) in order to allow you to apply practical skills, under supervision.

  • MIA will conduct a pre-confirmation of enrolment, LLN assessment with applicants to ensure their suitability, to undertake and successfully complete the course.
