Apprenticeships and traineeships

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine training with working in a real job, with a real boss, for a real wage. Apprentices and trainees work towards the completion of a nationally recognised qualification while learning valuable skills at work and under the guidance of a training organisation.

Becoming an apprentice or trainee could be the best thing you ever do. You'll be trained and mentored all the way. You'll earn a wage and work towards a qualification that could really take you places.

How to participate in Apprenticeships/Traineeships

Employer/Trainee
  1. Employer and apprentice/trainee discuss and analyse the workforce skill gaps.

  2. Employer and apprentice/trainee choose their preferred Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider, and choose a Supervising Registered Training Organisation (SRTO).

  3. Apprentice/trainee perform their duties as explained in Training Plan (TP).

  4. Employer makes sure sufficient supervisions are in place to assist apprentice/trainee's on-the-job training.

Supervising Registered Training Organisations (SRTO)
  1. SRTO develops Training Plan (TP) with employer and apprentice/trainee.

  2. SRTO provides facilities, supervision and training services required under the TP.

  3. SRTO make sure required documents including but not limited to Employer Resource Assessment (ERA), Training Plan (TP) and Training Record (TR) are being updated as an ongoing practice, so all stakeholders are aligning with up-to-date process.

  4. SRTO holds an induction for employer, apprentice/trainee and supervisor to go through Employer Resource Assessment (ERA), Training Plan (TP) and Training Record (TR), and ensures all these documents are monitored on an ongoing basis to be up to date.

Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN)
  1. AASN provides advice on training options.

  2. AASN holds a sign-up meeting to explain detailing rights and obligations under each training contract.

  3. AASN assists with completing and lodging training contracts.

  4. AASN provides ongoing support and shares other apprenticeship/traineeship incentives programs.
